Devotees advised to stay calm in case of a quake during Traslacion 2020

Devotees who would be joining the annual grand massive miracle crusade for the feast of Santo Nino de Cebu were advised to remain calm should an unexpected event like earthquake strike.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRMMO) head Michael Salalima reminded devotees to follow the usual procedures rehearsed during shake drills.

“Unang-una, huwag tayong magpa-panic. The usual na ine-exercise natin tuwing shake drill. Of course, we have to stay calm,” Salalima said in a press briefing on Monday.

Millions of devotees were expected to join the Saturday-Monday's gathering from the Quirino Grandstand at the Luneta Park to the Quiapo Church in the north and Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange in the south.

On Monday, according to Salalima, the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council headed by MMDA chair Danilo Lim had raised a blue alert due to the gathering.

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - National Capital Region (NCR) director Chief Superintendent Wilberto Kwan Tiu said that 550 firefighters from the bureau had been deployed for the Traslacion.

“Handa po ang Manila Fire District na rumesponde kung sakali pong may unexpected event,” he said in the press briefing.

At least 17 firetrucks would be deployed for the El Shaddai rally, 14 of which were dedicated to the 14 segments of the route. Three ambulances would be on standby. — DVM, GMA News
